I have a lease agreement with my landlord that states ALL repairs over 100 dollars falls on him I have made it known since last summer that the central air does not work properly in the house I am renting. last year you did not feel any air flow on the top level this year there is NO flow at all upstairs to the point where the thermostat reads 92 degrees as I write this! He keeps bringing this guy to TRY and fix the problem and even the guy has told him the unit is no good it is too small for a house this size and nothing can be done. He STILL will not replace the unit. my light bill just came and it is 400 dollars!!!!I have to run the unit 24/7 just to try and make the downstairs level of the house somewhat bearable.I have to run the unit on 72 just to make downstairs 80 degrees. I can not afford these ridiculously high electric bills. What can I do? Do I hold out on the rent until he fixes it? I live in augusta georgia and it has been HOT the other day it was 107 and I have three small children two of which are chronic asthmatics and I myself am a chronic asthmatic. I don't know what to do someone PLEASE help me. I have thought of moving but the kids school is GREAT and no other homes in our area fall within my budget to make this all WORSE my landlord is my uncle! he always takes FOREVER to fix things most of the time I just do them on my own. I had someone come out and clean all the vents change the filters and sterilize the unit. He is super cheap and this is really causing a strain on our relationship. I saw someone said if the house is "habitable" he doesnt have to fix it but isnt a house that is 92 degrees a little much? I have closed the vents upstairs and it doesnt make downstairs cooler.Im really stuck in what I should do. Thank you for any helpful information you can give me in advance... Read More »
